[ See, Carlisle, this is the way to get on Rosie's good side. Don't ask questions. She notices the non-inquiry into what she is and is... definitely thankful. It's not a secret anymore, but it gets a little tiring bringing it up time and time again. ]

I mean. Maybe. Most people seem to like the taste of chocolate with it. I like the taste of chocolate too, it just doesn't agree with me.

I know there's substitutes though that are safe for dogs, but... it's just not the same. I'm also absolute garbage at cooking so I'd probably burn the place down before I made anything edible.

It's something most people in my world can do to some degree, and are taught early on should they show any scrap of talent. It's been strange, finding there are places where magic is either an unknown or a fictional entity.

[And that those with magic are a minority of sorts. That mostly means he doesn't have someone to chat magic with.]

How do you know someone has talent?

[All he's seen of magic from Carlisle's world is the glyphcrafting and that seems like a weird thing for a kid to accidentally show promise in.]

The longer I'm here, and the more people tell me that this stuff is secret in their worlds, the more I wonder if it's just secret in mine.

I generally find that when someone assures me something will be great, it distinctly isn't.

It's no secret in my world by any stretch, but it seems I would be in the minority with that in a place like this. To find if someone has talent in a certain craft, they need only show some capacity for it despite a lack of proper training. Emily, for example—

[His expression falls just a bit. Boy, does thinking about his missing student hurt more than he will ever admit.]

... She, ah. I taught her glyphcrafting, and she immediately began to inscribe glyphs with not only the sigils I taught her, but those of a language from her world, as well. And much to my surprise, they worked. She had a gift for such things.

Weed is just. The common name we gave it. I don't know why since I don't think it's actually a weed - maybe it is? - but. Anyway.

What are paw plants, then?

It's a type of herb from my world primarily grown by the Forest Folk with leaves that have curved thorns. You know. Like paws.

[Hence the name.]

They're often used for medicinal purposes, many of which were discovered by Pendlebrook Brimstone, the fellow who first negotiated with the Forest Folk to allow for the trade of such plants. It is primarily used in alchemy, though those with knowledge of glyphcrafting can readily enchant it into a tea for the same effect.

Sounds like she was pretty smart. I'm, uh, sorry she disappeared. Hopefully that means she went back to her world.

Her world is a magicless one that is nonetheless host to monstrous abominations. I cannot imagine her return is a pleasant one.

Also, that totally sounds like weed, 'medicinal purposes' and all. Just with a different look and name? Maybe it's your universe's version of it.

Why do I get the distinct feeling you're looking to use this plant of yours for purposes other than medicinal ones?

Well, it has 'recreational' use where... you smoke it even though you don't need to.

Kind of like having sex without the purpose of procreating, y'know? It's just fun.
