Hello, this is Carlisle. I mean, it's not Carlisle as in I'm actually answering you right now, so if you're trying to reply to me at the second, you should probably save your breath because I'm not really here. This is some kind of a recording of my voice, but this is my communicator. I'm going to assume these devices are as common here as they are in other places — not my world, but others, ones more technologically advanced than where I come from— so if you'd like to leave me a message, then you may do so here, or er... Right. Here is fine. So just leave yo— [beep] |

Atem's smile intensifies, it's clear that maybe he didn't need that apology, but he does appreciate it.」
It's fine, Carlisle. Think nothing of it. 「He shifts on his seat a little, trying to get a better look at what he's doing. It looks like a hieroglyphic of some sort.」
What does it mean?

What, the apology?
[He belatedly realizes what Atem is looking at.]
Oh, this. It's glyphcrafting, a form of magic from my world. To imbue your tea, I need to construct a glyph that will give the drink the desired properties. Each symbol on this glyph represents an element, all combining for the effect we need.

I thought the plant itself had those properties. But what you're doing sounds like the kind of magic the sorcerers from my home used practice too. They used the Mdju Netjer, or... the Words of the Gods for it. Words have power.

[He continues drawing, adding another symbol, another curved line.]
Tell me of these Words of the Gods -- of your gods? Or only theirs?

Hieroglyphs they call them now, I think. We used them for the important things, you could say, prayers and sacred writings over the temples and tombs, protective spells and the like. What about yours?

What of my what? Gods, or glyphs? Or the ways we would speak to our deities?

「In truth he wondered about the glyphs, but now that he mentioned it, why not?」
